Visualizing Differences in Healthcare

Visualizing Differences in Healthcare

This visualization uses data from the 2009 National Healthcare Quality and Disparities report. The results have been converted in a way that differences in healthcare between blacks and whites can be expressed by comparable quantities and factors. For example when looking at HIV and Aids the situation is 9.7 times worse for blacks than it is for whites. On the topic of suicide deaths, there are 2.5 times more deaths within the white population than in the black.

The visualization however also shows, that there are many situations in which the difference is very small, but that many small differences can add up to a big disadvantage for certain population groups.
