How the World Slept

How the World Slept

Throughout history, people strived to explain sleep and improve comfort. Early ancestors slept on animal skins and other materials to soften the ground. Eventually people began to see the benefits of sleeping on raised beds, and developed early mattresses stuffed with materials like straw, wool and feathers.

As technology and manufacturing progressed, the simple beds of the past gave way to cotton and innerspring mattresses, waterbeds, memory foam, and natural latex mattresses. Meanwhile, humans continued to study the science of sleep in an effort to understand the process and improve efficiency. When you consider the transition from caves to the ultra-comfortable mattresses of today, sleep sure has come a long way!
