The Best (And Worst) Hockey Team Ever

The Best (And Worst) Hockey Team Ever

Other than winning a Stanley Cup, one of the best ways to tell how well a hockey team performs is by points percentage - the points won divided by the total possible points the team could have won. (In hockey, a win is worth two points and a tie or overtime loss is worth 1 point.) This visualization looks at data from every season of the NHL, starting in 1917, and shows the best (and worst) team by points percentage. You can filter the selections to look at individual teams, seasons, decades or by a few other superlatives (top/bottom 50 in various categories). In every case, the top and bottom teams are determined by points percentage.
