The Visual Analytics and Imaging (VAI) Lab at SUNY Korea seeks to develop interactive visual tools that can assist humans in gaining a better understanding of complex datasets with many attributes. A special emphasis is placed on creating visual analytics tools that are intuitive and appealing to users without deep background in visualization.

One research theme of the lab is the exploration of high-dimensional datasets with optional model generation via machine learning techniques and geospatial context support. Another theme resides in health informatics, using visual tools to manage large collections of electronic patient health records. A third theme is to support visual analytics with GPU-based high performance computing in a cloud-computing framework. The VAI lab at SUNY Korea is supported by the MSIP (Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning), Korea, under the "IT Consilience Creative Program" (NIPA-2013-H0203-13-1001) supervised by NIPA (National IT Industry Promotion Agency).
